LEFT OF THE ESSENCE
POP UP EVENT

LOCATION : BOSTON, MA
PROJECT TYPE : SPATIAL DESIGN
ROLE : DESIGNER

In her experience as a studio owner, Neelum stressed the need to let the clients feel the jewelry. The weight, the icy cold sensation equalized to warmth by human touch, that rings true a wave of persuasion that it could be theirs.

The very persuasion, in this project, is to be the piece, infused within the nest, left of the essence, and felt, before seen, and finally found through navigation of spatial arrangement.

BEAUTÉ PRISMIQUE - CONCEPT STORE FRONT DESIGN

LOCATION :
PROJECT TYPE : FACADE DESIGN - SPECULATIVE
ROLE : DESIGNER

This concept storefront reimagines Tiffany & Co.’s identity through a parametric façade system inspired by gemstone facets and optical layering. Designed in Rhino 3D using a custom Grasshopper script, the tiled geometry responds to light and materiality, producing an atmospheric and jewel-like visual effect that aligns with the brand’s heritage.

The façade system was envisioned using architectural-grade bioplastic, such as NatureWorks' Ingeo PLA—a transparent, high-performance biopolymer derived from plant sugars. This material was selected for its clarity, structural stability, and sustainability profile, making it suitable for architectural applications like cladding or interior features. Its ability to refract and diffuse light provided the ideal material foundation for the tessellated tiles, enhancing the concept’s environmental and sensory impact.

Script visualizes the parametric construction of the façade—generating responsive tiling through grid evaluation, domain mapping, and transformation logic. The system enables modular experimentation with pattern density, curvature, and light-material interaction.

ENTER THE ROTUNDA

LOCATION : VIRTUAL PROJECT
PROJECT TYPE : RETAIL CONCEPT
ROLE : DESIGNER

Buckets. Buckets. Buckets.

How can we utilize plastic buckets and textiles to design a new space? By utilizing the materiality, light, and translucency, we can imagine illumination and show of materials in a different way.  Inspired by the documentary, Manufactured Landscapes, the ENTER THE ROTUNDA project aims to introduce the process of moved goods of the warehouses in the spatial design. By taking elaborate forms of 18th century chapels and rotunda, the internal workings of buildings can be exposed for spatial beauty.

LE LABO POP UP STORE CONCEPT

      LOCATION : VIRTUAL PROJECT
      PROJECT TYPE : RETAIL CONCEPT
      ROLE : DESIGNER

      Fragrance is soft.

How can we visually convey  silky fragrance of Le Labo? By utilizing ambient light, soft materiality, and open spatial organization, the store serves as an unwritten invitation to anyone.  By opening up the facade of store, the fragrance speaks first, the lights second, and tactile stimulation last. The space aims to bring in the visitors willing to experiment a different scent from the one before.

          DÉCONSTRUIRE L'UNIFORME

          LOCATION : VIRTUAL PROJECT
          PROJECT TYPE : VISUAL CONCEPT
          ROLE : DESIGNER

          Les uniformes sont flous.

DÉCONSTRUIRE L'UNIFORME is a visual curation project by deconstructing the uniform in to a blur and blend. By utilizing animation rigging, each posture is a sequence of a narrative.  Using both orthographic and perspective camera and adjusting the focal length, the uniform is distorted and dissected into a cluster. Inspired by Maison Margiela’s décortiqué (shelled), this project aims to bring a visual discussion from a construction uniform usually associated with signal, caution and regimentation.

LOCATION : 13 WATERMAN ST,  RI
                PROJECT TYPE : MATERIAL DESIGN
                ROLE : RESEARCH ASSISTANT

In 2023, IIHS has reported test results of likelihood of body trauma for rear passengers from impact. Based on the pattern displacement lessons from origami pattern, could we find a way to combine two different strut based structures in order to orchestrate safe impact for rear passengers?

As a research assistant in the joint effort by RISD x Hyundai Motor Group, Seungwoo Hong has worked with Hyundai Motor Group and KIA engineers and designers on computational design specifically focusing on lattice and origami structures. From guidance of Eliza Squibb, Jessica Smith of Hyundai Biological Fellows Program, James Weaver of Harvard Wyss Institute and RISD Nature Lab, the project focused on the future of mobility for the Hyundai Motor Group.

                LG SMART COTTAGE

                LOCATION : PRAUD ARCHITECTURE
                PROJECT TYPE : SPATIAL DESIGN
                ROLE : DESIGN INTERN

As an exhibition for LG Business Research, the AMPLIFIER is a Home as a Service.

There is an exodus out of Seoul. The surging popularity of microhomes in rural area to avoid the stress of urban life has emerged in all demographics. How can we customize architectural space for needs of each unique individual? By interpreting the needs of the five senses in a spatialized form, this project, AMPLIFIER, proposes a model from manufacturing to design, a custom built microhome.

As a design intern at PRAUD Architecture, Seoul, Seungwoo Hong has contributed to the team in prototyping and modeling for the research.

                EMBODIED ENVIRONMENT

                LOCATION : 169 WEYBOSSET ST , RI
                PROJECT TYPE : SPATIAL DESIGN
                ROLE : DESIGNER

Embodied environment is a spatial and sound project aimed to investigate the power of recognition of sound in an urban environment. Inspired by the cocktail party conundrum, the task of hearing a sound of interest, often a speech signal, in a complex auditory setting, the device aims to record and capture the data of the words that we can fully hear and what we can not. By swinging between 180° and 270°, it represents whether the words were recognized by the device or not.

The test was conducted in my home and my roommate was the source of the voice. By discovering types of noises and factors that can drown out the sound of interest such as the sound of water running, the traffic and the neighbors, the project highlights how much of a complex sound scape we inhabit in, no matter where, even in our very homes.
